Since 1997, Mike has been investing his life into Student Ministries and Young Adults. With a gift for teaching and a passion for relationships, Mike loves sharing God’s Word with others. Spending 15 years as a Pastor at North Coast Church in Vista, CA., Mike was one of 3 ongoing guest teachers on the North Coast “big” stage bringing the weekend message to the congregation consisting of over 12,000, 5 campuses and 36 service opportunities.
“My path took me through drugs and alcohol, punk rock clubs and street gangs, through the loss of faith and the rejection of God, through looking for someone to tell me I’m worthy and pushing away everyone who loved me. I’ve learned from parents, pastors, policemen, drug dealers, ex-cons, stay at home moms, high school kids, dead men, theologians, punks, comic books, and cartoons.” Now a powerful teacher of God’s Word. Mike’s testimony is captivating and encouraging.
Mike’s ministry focuses on reaching men who might not feel like the church is a place for them. Reaching the guys who come from a different background, who are looking for and frankly need Jesus, but might not look like His “normal” followers.
During Mikes 20 years in ministry, he has spoken to thousands of students and young adults providing insight, encouragement, and a unique view how God’s accepts and forgives even those who live on the fringe. Mike allows all to see that God himself is accessible and available even to those who walk in their own darkness. He understands that just a little bit of light needs to get in to start tilling the soil of the hardened heart. He was one of the kids in the back row trying to absorb God’s Word through a darkened filter and thick walls of attitude.
Never a big one for New year’s resolutions, a couple years back Mike asked his children what they wanted from him for the upcoming year. His oldest son asked him to show him how to be a man and to be the kind of man he wanted to follow. Mike sat down to write his son a letter about being a man. Some 200+ pages later, the result is the soon-to-be-released, The Focused Man, A Letter to my Son.
In 2004, Mike married the love of his life Katrina. In 2014, Katrina and Mike finalized the adoption of their four kids: Tylee, Darius, Tabrina and Darrien. They live in Vista, CA. just north of San Diego.
